New tools for drilling, well logging and mining, don’t you know about it yet?

In the fields of directional drilling, logging and mining, accurate control of direction and attitude is the core of successful operations. The complex industrial environment makes traditional sensors helpless. A new type of north seeker has become a tool for technological innovation with its unique advantages. Today we’ll take a closer look at why it’s essential for jobs in these fields.

**Break through space limitations: special-shaped design for easy installation**

Traditional inclinometers and MWD systems are installed at a certain distance from the drill bit, causing measurement errors; The cylindrical north seeker ER-MNS-09 adopts a compact design of 120mm × Φ30mm and weighs ≤150g. It can be directly embedded in the drilling rig's probe pipe and installed close to the drill bit.

This design is particularly suitable for oil logging tools (such as gyro tools, HDD tools) and TBM, significantly reducing measurement errors.

**Industry-leading accuracy: 0.25°secψ north-seeking accuracy**

In magnetic mining areas or deep well environments, magnetic field interference often leads to azimuth measurement deviations. The north seeker achieves true north orientation based on a three-axis MEMS gyroscope and accelerometer, with an accuracy of up to 0.25°secψ (1σ), far exceeding similar products on the market (generally 0.5°~1°secψ). The measurement error of the azimuth is controlled within a very small range.

Attitude tracking can be performed: output pitch, roll, and azimuth data to provide adjustment basis for drilling rigs or mining equipment. Initial attitude calibration and true north orientation are automatically completed in 5 minutes, greatly shortening the deployment time.

**A reliable partner in harsh environments: shock resistance, wide temperature range, and long battery life**

The operating environment of the oil and mining industry is extreme. The high-temperature version of the north seeker has an operating temperature of 5~125℃, which is suitable for high-temperature environments in deep wells; it can withstand strong shocks and vibrations during drilling to ensure continuous and stable data; it only requires 2W power and supports 6~12V wide voltage input, which is suitable for long-term continuous operation.

**Why choose a cylindrical north finder? **

Technological breakthrough: breaking the monopoly, the performance is comparable to that of a fiber optic gyroscope, and the cost is reduced;

Customized service: providing different accuracy and different temperature versions, normal temperature version (5~55℃) and high temperature version (5~125℃), to adapt to different operational needs;

Applicable to coal mines, tunnels, and exploration! Northseeker's strength revealed

Under the surface, whether it is coal mining, tunnel penetration or geological exploration, accurate azimuth and orientation technology has always been the core guarantee of engineering safety and efficiency. North seekers are playing an irreplaceable role in these fields with their high precision and strong anti-interference characteristics.

Taking the north seeker ER-MNS-05Mini as an example, let’s understand how the north seeker works.

**Underground excavation**

The underground environment is complex, and deviations in the tunnel direction may lead to major safety hazards. Traditional measurement tools are easily affected by metal equipment and electromagnetic interference.

The north seeking accuracy of this north seeker can reach 0.25°secψ(1σ)! It can provide more accurate azimuth, pitch angle, roll angle and other attitude information. It not only has extremely high stability, but also is not affected by external interference and can be used in magnetic mining areas.

The shield machine is susceptible to interference from geological conditions and mechanical vibration during excavation. The guidance system integrated with the north seeker can correct the attitude of the shield machine in real time.

**Geological Exploration**

In geological surveys or tunnels passing through complex strata, it is necessary to accurately measure the direction of rock strata, fault directions, etc. The north seeker can provide a high-precision direction reference and can be used in conjunction with geological radar detection to ensure the accuracy of measurement data.

**Extreme size, flexible installation**

The size of ER-MNS-05 Mini is 40*40*42 (mini version with shell)/27*26*34 (mini version without shell and baseboard), and the weight is <80g (mini version with shell)/ 40g (mini version without shell and baseboard).

**OEM Customization**

It takes only a few simple steps to connect the product to your system and obtain the geocaching data without the 15-pin plug provided by our company. The size and weight of our products are significantly reduced by removing the base plate housing.

Is there an error in drilling trajectory control? The north finder installed near the drill bit makes drilling more accurate!

Directional well technology is one of the most advanced drilling technologies today. Based on actual cases, the main problem of directional wells is the control accuracy of the trajectory. The directional tool will deviate from the trajectory and the measurement error is large. There is also a trajectory prediction error caused by the MWD being a certain distance away from the drill bit.

We have developed a new cylindrical north seeker ER-MNS-09 to address these problems, which can be installed close to the drill bit and directly in the drilling rig’s exploration pipe. It can be used in gyro tools or HDD tools.

**Near-drill-bit installation**

This is an aluminum alloy cylindrical MEMS north finder, 120mm long and only 30mm in diameter, light in weight and with good thermal conductivity. It can be directly installed near the drill bit or in the drill rig probe, and can independently measure the azimuth and attitude angles, more accurately control the well trajectory and reduce errors.

**High-precision north-seeking orientation**

The north-seeking accuracy of this north finder can reach 0.5°secψ(1σ), which can provide more accurate azimuth information. This is crucial for drilling operations that require precise orientation. At the same time, it is not affected by magnetic interference and can also be used in magnetic mining areas.

**Self-alignment and attitude tracking function**

After startup, it can automatically initialize alignment and then automatically determine the true north direction. No manual alignment is required, and the north-seeking time only takes 5 minutes. It can also track and provide attitude information to ensure that the drilling trajectory meets the design requirements.

**Adapt to harsh environment**

During the drilling process, there will be strong impact and vibration. It can resist high impact vibration and ensure stable operation. There is also a high temperature version with an operating temperature range of 5°C~+125°C. The low power consumption design of only 2W ensures stable output under continuous working conditions.

This north finder is designed to be more suitable for applications such as oil mining and drilling, especially in situations where precise control is required.

A powerful assistant for mining and drilling

Installed near the drill bit, high-precision IMU for real-time and accurate drilling measurement

In drilling projects, compasses are often used to find the north, but compasses can produce large errors under magnetic field interference. Traditional inclinometers cannot achieve real-time continuous dynamic measurement of the drilling tool attitude. At the same time, the measurement position is far away from the drill bit, and the measured information has errors, which affects the entire drilling process.

We have an IMU ER-MIMU-09 that can be directly installed in the drill pipe and used in gyro tools or HDD tools. After adding algorithms, it can perform measurement while drilling, and obtain information such as the true north direction and the attitude and speed of the drill tool through calculation. It is not subject to any external interference and the measurement results are accurate.

**Near-bit installation**

The cylindrical shape design is 120mm long, only 30mm in diameter, and weighs less than 150g. It can be placed directly near the drill bit or in the drill rig probe. The measurement accuracy is improved, and the position and attitude of the drill bit can be understood more accurately, ensuring the safety and efficiency of drilling.

**High precision, high performance**

Built-in high-performance three-axis MEMS gyroscope and three-axis accelerometer. The built-in gyroscope bias instability is 0.01deg/hr, and the angular velocity random walk is 0.0025°/√h. The accelerometer bias stability is 50ug, and the bias repeatability is 100ug.

The measurement data provided can provide support for solving information such as azimuth and attitude angle.

**Real-time and dynamic response**

The measurement data output by IMU in real time can provide support for real-time monitoring of the drill bit's attitude changes and respond quickly to emergencies during drilling.

**Strong environmental adaptability**

We also have high-temperature IMUs with an operating temperature of -40℃~+125℃. The low-power design can also effectively resist adverse factors such as vibration, impact, magnetic field interference and high temperature during drilling.

It can be used in gyro tools and HDD tools for logging, drilling, and directional drilling.
